Revolutionize

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s (CEE) bachelor of science programs emphasize design and teamwork, offering a flexible, hands-on approach within interdisciplinary project courses that bring together students studying both civil and environmental engineering. Working collaboratively, students gain practical experience and develop essential skills that are highly valued in the field. Students may pursue additional majors or minors to enhance their experiences gained in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Graduates of the program go on to work at companies like Deloitte, ExxonMobil, Kimley-Horn, and Stantec and pursue graduate degrees at academic institutions such as CMU, Lehigh University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, and Stanford University.

Degree programs

*Both the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering curricula include a project course in each of the programs' four years.

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program curriculum focuses on planning, designing, and maintaining built environments, such as buildings, transportation networks, water systems, and energy distribution systems. Together, these courses provide opportunities to gain hands-on engineering experience and enable students to apply what they learn in core courses to real-world practices.
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering program integrates computing and data analytics with hands-on labs and project courses. Graduates are prepared to take on challenges in our natural environment, such as developing sustainable water, energy, and food systems, aspects of climate change, and creating smart, flexible solutions for cities.
  • Integrated Master’s/Bachelor’s in Civil and Environmental Engineering
The Integrated Master's/Bachelor's program allows students who excel academically to achieve both a bachelor's and master's degree in any of the major programs without needing to apply separately. The program is designed to provide extensive knowledge and technical proficiency and enhance students' preparedness for careers in the industry. Typically completed in eight to ten full academic semesters at CMU, this comprehensive experience ensures graduates are well-equipped for their professional endeavors.
