Biomedical Engineering

The Biomedical Engineering additional major program capitalizes on curricular overlaps between Biomedical Engineering and traditional engineering majors, enabling completion within four years with a modest increase in course requirements. The program encompasses three key components: the core courses, which establish foundational knowledge; the tracks, which allow students to specialize in specific aspects of biomedical engineering; and the capstone design, where students collaborate to solve real-world challenges. Students should declare the additional major in Biomedical Engineering simultaneously with their traditional engineering major.

Engineering Design, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

The Engineering Design, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (EDIE) additional major provides students with the know-how to innovate products around technology and deliver economically viable solutions to the real-world challenges of today and tomorrow. Students learn formal engineering innovation and design methods and acquire the entrepreneurial skills and tools needed to create and manage successful businesses and organizations, with particular emphasis on translating and integrating technologies into products, services, and venture solutions.

Engineering and Arts

The Engineering and Arts (EA) additional major provides engineering students with the opportunity to acquire formal practice and training in the creative arts while establishing a groundwork for interdisciplinary research to blend their interests seamlessly. Engineering students who are pursuing a primary major in biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, electrical and computer, materials science and engineering, or mechanical engineering can earn an additional major in Engineering and Arts. Students pursuing this additional major will choose a concentration from the College of Fine Arts’ School of Architecture, Art, Drama, or Music.

Engineering and Public Policy

The Engineering and Public Policy additional major focuses on cultivating socially responsible engineers within conventional technical domains. The program integrates a robust base in mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering with intensive training in analyzing social and political challenges. Students actively engage in interdisciplinary problem-solving projects, allowing them to delve into diverse topics, including information privacy, environmental monitoring, global energy concerns, technological advancements, and internet communication technologies.
