“EMERGE fosters an amazingly supportive community. As a head mentor, I strive to give back to this community through empathetic leadership. This program has shown me the importance of creating a space where students can feel seen and be empowered to grow and connect. I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of this community and hope to deepen my skills and meet new friends this year!”
Aditi Jain
Head Mentor, EMERGE Program

“I’ve been part of EMERGE since my freshman year, and I have really enjoyed every single aspect of this program. Whether it is grabbing food with my mentees or catching up with my own mentor, I feel like I always have someone to turn to. As a head mentor, I’m super excited to give back to this amazing community as much as it has given to me these past few years. I can’t wait to meet everyone soon!”
Essie Lee
Head Mentor, EMERGE Program
Senior, ECE
“I wanted to become a head mentor because I had an amazing experience as both a mentor and a mentee. My mentor was incredibly welcoming and supportive, sharing valuable advice that helped me adjust to CMU. Being part of a mentor family also gave me the chance to meet people from different departments and build meaningful connections. This program made me feel truly welcomed, and I gained so much from it that I wanted to give back. As a head mentor, I hope to support incoming freshmen and help make their experience at CMU as positive as mine was.”

“Mentorship is such an important part of who I am and my academic journey, and EMERGE was able to provide me with the support I was looking for in my freshman year. “EMERGE creates a welcoming community that allowed me to adjust to the rigorous environment of CMU and thrive. This inspired me to become a mentor last year to provide the same support system to incoming freshmen that I was provided. I hope to assist other students in whatever ways they need, and I am excited to meet another group of wonderful students!”
