“EMERGE fosters an amazingly supportive community. As a head mentor, I strive to give back to this community through empathetic leadership. This program has shown me the importance of creating a space where students can feel seen and be empowered to grow and connect. I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of this community and hope to deepen my skills and meet new friends this year!”

Aditi Jain
Head Mentor, EMERGE Program

“I’ve been part of EMERGE since my freshman year, and I have really enjoyed every single aspect of this program. Whether it is grabbing food with my mentees or catching up with my own mentor, I feel like I always have someone to turn to. As a head mentor, I’m super excited to give back to this amazing community as much as it has given to me these past few years. I can’t wait to meet everyone soon!”

Essie Lee
Head Mentor, EMERGE Program
Junior, ECE
“I wanted to become a head mentor because I had an amazing experience as both a mentor and a mentee. My mentor was incredibly welcoming and supportive, sharing valuable advice that helped me adjust to CMU. Being part of a mentor family also gave me the chance to meet people from different departments and build meaningful connections. This program made me feel truly welcomed, and I gained so much from it that I wanted to give back. As a head mentor, I hope to support incoming freshmen and help make their experience at CMU as positive as mine was.”

“As someone who has been in the EMERGE program since their freshman year, it has been such a rewarding experience, a great place to connect with others and grow as a leader. EMERGE provides a multitude of resources to help freshmen transition to college and was a key part of my freshmen year. I can't wait to meet the incoming students and make some new memories!”

Lillian Keith
Senior, CEE
“EMERGE was a fantastic resource for me as I navigated my first year at CMU, and being a mentor allows me to support the incoming first-year years in the same way that EMERGE supported me. As a mentor in the program, I have loved being able to connect with my mentees and help them in any way I could. It’s been wonderful to be a part of EMERGE for the past three years and contribute to the program’s growth, and I’m super excited to return as a mentor again this year!”

“Mentorship is such an important part of who I am and my academic journey, and EMERGE was able to provide me with the support I was looking for in my freshman year. I’m really excited to be able to pay it forward and continue the mentorship cycle by helping new CIT students through this rewarding program.”

Caroline Vernon
Sophomore, MSE & BME
"During my freshman year, EMERGE created a welcoming community that allowed me to adjust to the rigorous environment of CMU and thrive. This inspired me to become a mentor this year to provide the same support system to incoming freshmen that I was provided. I hope to assist other students in whatever ways they need, and I am excited for the upcoming school year!”

Ariana Watson
Sophomore, MechE & EDIE
"I am excited to be an EMERGE Mentor because I know how valuable a support system can be when things get hard. During my first year, having mentors and friends to lean on made all the difference. I want to help create that same welcoming environment for new students. I hope to support others through challenges, celebrate their wins, and help them feel at home at CMU. I can’t wait to meet everyone and make new memories together!”
