Engine-scale reactor design to enable low-temperature combustion in natural-gas engines

Natural-gas is an alternative fuel that can be used in internal combustion engines. Efficient and cleaner use of natural-gas in engines is a continuing research effort. This project involves Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of reactivity-enhanced combustion in natural-gas engines. Simulations will be utilized to design an engine-scale catalytic reactor and engine combustion system to improve performance and efficiency of natural-gas engines. Experimental data from collaborators is available to compare with the model predictions. Once validated, the model will be utilized to guide experiments.
