Through the human centered techniques, multidisciplinary teams are exposed to a real-world challenge and are mentored in the journey to identify the problem, ideate for solutions, design and prototype for solutions. The coaches and mentors include subject experts, industry technical experts and business leaders, IP experts, and faculty. The teams are constituted four weeks in advance, given the challenges and immersed among the users, to enable them go through empathy, problem definition and ideation for solutions. The teams also develop a workable business model through the lean canvas and pitching their solutions to judges. Expected outcomes include MVPs after which the teams onboarded to a pre-incubator. The team members will also acquire skills in the use of human centered design for innovation and business development. The teams are constituted from students across the Afretec partner universities.
