Organoids are 3-dimensional, self-organizing tissues created by assembling tissue-specific cells in a highly patterned manner to enable higher-order, tissue-level functional output. Functional, reproducible, and predictable tissue assembly with proper quality control is crucial for the adoption of organoid manufacturing in biomedical research, industry, and robotics. This project enhances organoid biomanufacturing and quality control through AI and robotic-enabled manufacturing to create the tissue building blocks needed for mesoscale assessment of tissue health and quality through tissue-specific motility. The organoid production framework is developed and optimized for increased production and shortened time requirements while also minimizing batch-to-batch variation during production. Such motile organoids have wide-reaching applications in biohybrid robotics, targeted drug delivery, drug screening, and basic biomedical research.
