In the fourth year of the Rethink the Rink collaboration, students concentrated on enhancing the safety of player helmets. The Make-a-Thon was a success, offering promising opportunities for safety improvements and potential long-term partnerships.
“The collaboration with Covestro and Carnegie Mellon represents an exciting effort to leverage advances in material science to enhance player safety,” said David Morehouse, president and CEO of the Penguins. “With insights from the Penguins and the NHL, Rethink the Rink provides an exceptional platform to explore how to make this inherently physical sport safer. This research project is meaningful and has the potential for a lasting impact on the game.”
