In the third year, CMU Engineering, Covestro, and the Pittsburgh Penguins redirected their efforts towards developing shoulder and elbow pads. These pads are important not only for player protection but also for their performance on the ice. “With larger players, faster pucks, and more powerful shots, we have a significant opportunity to enhance safety through innovation,” stated David Morehouse, former CEO of the Penguins.
“We’ve already seen promising results from this collaboration, so we’re looking forward to seeing how the students approach this year’s challenge,” said Haakan Jonsson, chairman and president, Covestro LLC. “I have no doubt they’ll continue to raise the bar a little higher—and push the boundaries a little farther.”
