In the second year of the Rethink the Rink partnership, teams concentrated on redesigning goalie helmets. Since hockey players preferred the appearance of older helmets, one team aimed to minimize changes to the helmet's look while enhancing safety. They determined that one effective way to reduce the impact force on a goalie’s head was to modify the fastening between the cage and the shell. After modeling the helmet, they simulated collisions, collected data, and conducted tests to develop the best design solution.
