CMU Energy Week 2024, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University’s Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation, March 19-21, brought together leaders and learners from a variety of academic, industry, government, and nonprofit sectors for important conversations about the opportunities and obstacles to decarbonizing transportation worldwide.

EST&P students were in attendance throughout the week, networking, presenting their research, and meeting many energy leaders. The week kicked off with the Energy Industry Career Fair, where our students met and networked with many employers in the energy sector. EST&P also had its own table at the career fair to network with prospective undergraduates interested in pursuing education in energy. After the career fair, EST&P students and staff attended the happy hour, where they could further network with the companies that attended the career fair.

EST&P students took part in the Student Energy Research Poster Competition on Wednesday, March 20. The poster competition is a longstanding tradition at CMU Energy Week. Students, from undergraduates to postdoctoral researchers, have the opportunity to share their research with attendees. Andrew Jones, an alum of the EST&P program, was one of the winners of the four-poster competition prizes presented! His research was a case study in Phoenix, Arizona, examining the impacts of climate change on future residential electricity consumption and energy burden.

EST&P’s current cohort was the first cohort to paint the fence for the first time for CMU Energy Week!

ESTP core faculty member Nick Muller did a power talk on War, Influenza, and U.S. Carbon Intensity.
Our students attended many keynotes and panels on decarbonizing transportation, including Decarbonizing Community Transportation, Decarbonizing Freight Transportation, Decarbonizing While Ensuring Equity & Access, and many others from leading energy speakers.

It was a successful CMU Energy Week, learning about the challenges and opportunities in decarbonizing transportation.
