Sebastian Calderon Velasco received his B.S. in physics engineering (2006) and M.S. in materials engineering (2009) from the National University of Colombia. He earned his Ph.D. in materials engineering from the University of Minho, Portugal (2016), with a European Mention for work completed in part at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. He completed postdoctoral appointments at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) as a Marie-Curie Co-fund Research Fellow, specializing in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with an emphasis on differential phase contrast in STEM, and at Carnegie Mellon University, where he worked on advanced STEM characterization of functional materials. His current research focuses on advancing TEM techniques to investigate the atomic-scale structure and dynamic processes of novel ferroelectric materials and complex oxides. These efforts aim to accelerate materials discovery and enable next-generation electronic devices.
