A Carnegie Mellon engineering student, alumnus, and faculty member each received awards at the recent International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing (ICAM) that was held in Atlanta, GA from October 28-November 1, 2024.
The conference, which is hosted by ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials International) Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, is focused on standardization, qualification, and certification, with a particular focus on industry-specific requirements encompassing both additive and advanced manufacturing processes and value chains.
ICAM is organized by a dedicated team of more than 100 scientific committee members, all recognized as advanced manufacturing experts hailing from various sectors, including industry, academia, government and regulatory agencies, national labs, and more.
Pooja Maurya, a doctoral student of Chris Pistorius in the Material Science and Engineering Department, won first prize at the student poster event for her work using unsupervised computer vision techniques to detect and quantify carbides that can deteriorate mechanical properties of binder jet printed parts.
Jason Fox, who earned his master’s degree in 2011 and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon in 2015, received the Young Professional Award. He is currently a mechanical engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Sneha Prahba Narra, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at CMU, also received the Young Professional Award. She earned her master’s degree in 2013 and her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon in 2017.
The Young Professional in Additive Manufacturing award honors emerging young professionals who have consistently made remarkable research contributions to the additive manufacturing field, particularly in advancing standardization development.
