Vice-Chancellor, Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar
    	Alioune Badara Kandji has been the vice-chancellor of Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) since March 2025. He is the first rector of UCAD to be appointed through an open call for applications. Until his appointment, this professor of English was the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FLSH), the most populous faculty at UCAD.
Teacher, researcher, and manager, Kandji climbed the ranks within the FLSH. Before becoming dean, he was first head of the English department (2012-2017), then an assessor (2018-2019), and finally interim dean before being confirmed in 2021. He was also the president of the FLSH Research Commission between 2019 and 2020. On the academic front, he completed his entire education at Cheikh Anta Diop University; from the bachelor’s degree in 1996 to Ph.D. in 2014. Today, he is a full professor specializing in English literature.
He has published about 20 scientific articles and has overseen the publication of books. He is also the author of the book Anglophone Sketches: Culture, Society, and Politics: From 1910 to the Present, published in 2016 and then in 2018 by L'Harmattan-Senegal.
