Joseph (Joe) Brence, PT, DPT, MBA, is Chief Executive Officer of Rehab Essentials, where he partners with universities to launch and scale hybrid and online graduate programs in rehabilitation and health sciences. He is a strategy and innovation executive with 20 years of experience leading technology transformation, growth strategy, and new-venture development across healthtech and edtech. Prior to Rehab Essentials, Joe served as Vice President of Strategy at MedBridge, a leading digital health and education technology platform used by major health systems and providers, supporting care and education for more than 350k clinicians and 15 million patients annually.
Joe is also an advisor in the private equity space, supporting PE buyers of healthcare and educational technology businesses with value-creation initiatives spanning go-to-market strategy, product and platform strategy, operating model design, and scalable growth planning. He serves as a board advisor to Scribble Labs, an artificial intelligence company building healthcare technologies designed to support clinicians, and as an advisory board member for Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. At Carnegie Mellon University, Joe teaches at both the Master’s and PhD levels on the Strategy and Management of Technological Innovation, and is also on faculty at NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, where he teaches at the Master’s level on Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, and Information Technology.
