First-Year Students

In the College of Engineering, we provide our first-year students with all the resources they need to make a successful transition and acclimation into the Carnegie Mellon and College of Engineering communities.

First-Year Academic Advising

First-year CIT students will be contacted by their advisor in June and directed to a special Blackboard site, which will assist them with registration and other academic questions. They will not have access to the Blackboard site until they've been contacted by their advisor.

Students are not officially assigned a faculty advisor until they declare a major (usually towards the end of the second semester). For first-year concerns, students are encouraged to contact the Office of Undergraduate Studies or get involved in the First-Year Advisory Board (FAB), a group of first-year students chosen to help the college understand the first-year experience.
