Abstract

In the last decade, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency speculation has brought blockchain technology with its promise of decentralization into a strange limelight where nascent projects have attracted billions of dollars of investments. However, actual usage of Blockchain for decentralized computing, beyond digital token speculation, has had little adoption.

What will it take to make decentralized applications practical enough to scale and accessible enough for anyone to use them?

Using an agent-centric architecture, Holochain provides a fully scalable data-integrity engine for distributed apps that can operate at full-blown Facebook scales. Leveraging Holochain’s scalability to tap into peered computing power, we’re launching a hosting framework (called Holo) which enables access to these next-gen crypto apps via a normal web browser & URL.

You can also learn how Holochain transcends blockchain’s trilemma of tradeoffs between security, scalability and decentralization by shifting poor assumptions built into its underlying architectures. Discover how this makes Holochain more secure than blockchain and even lightweight enough for IoT use-cases.

Speaker Bio

Arthur Brock

Arthur Brock builds targeted currencies which shape the social dynamics of our emerging post-industrial economy. He has created more than a hundred designs for multi-currency systems and his software companies have built and deployed dozens of those systems. Initially, Arthur put his experience in Artificial Intelligence to use at GM and Chrysler & Hughes, but shifted his focus to building intelligence into social architectures rather than on computers. In 2012 He founded Agile Learning Centers: student-run schools with over two dozen locations worldwide. He has also founded award-winning, employee-run businesses. Art’s work focuses on the critical role that incentives, feedback loops, and currencies (defined in a broad sense) play in successful and regenerative organizations. His latest projects, Holochain and Holo, are about scaling those patterns. Holochain is a massively scalable, inexpensive post-blockchain framework for writing distributed apps (dApps). Holo is its flagship project — a decentralized hosting service that bridges Holochain apps (hApps) to the legacy web of today.
