The Presto group has several projects available for Engineering Honors Research Students. Our research focuses on pollutant emissions from energy extraction and consumption, and the subsequent atmospheric transformations that these emissions undergo. We approach this problem with a variety of tools, including laboratory experiments in simulated atmospheres, deployment of low-cost sensors in the ambient environment, and mobile sampling. Specific projects include: quantifying emissions from consumer products such as paints, personal care products, and construction products; studying the atmospheric chemistry of emissions from combustion and non-combustion sources; and development and deployment of low-cost sensors. We are also collaborating with doctors to expose human cells to particulate matter.
