Call for Nominations from Dean Garrett

Dean Jim Garrett

Dear College of Engineering Community:

I am pleased to announce that the College of Engineering is seeking nominations for the annual College of Engineering Staff Recognition Award. This award honors College of Engineering staff members whose job performance and dedication to the operations of the college merit special recognition. I encourage you to give serious consideration to these awards by nominating a deserving staff member. The Awards Committee requests that all nomination packets be current:  Andy Award packets and previously submitted packets will not be eligible for consideration. All letters of recommendation and/or support must be from the current year and tailored specifically for the CIT Staff Recognition Award. Signed nominations should be submitted in a sealed envelope addressed to:  Staff Recognition Award, College of Engineering Dean's Office, Scaife Hall 110.

There are several award categories:

  • Innovation Award, which will recognize an individual who has demonstrated or accomplished a core component of the College of Engineering's mission:  Innovation.
  • Inspirational Leadership Award, which will recognize an individual who inspires others to strive for excellence.  They influence without authority; often putting others’ interests ahead of their own.  “A champion of employees.”
  • Continuous Excellence Award, which will recognize an individual who continuously seeks excellence in practice.  They often “take it to the next level.”
  • Spirit Award, which will recognize an individual who has selflessly improved the lives of others, whether in the College of Engineering or the community.

Additionally, we are also seeking applications for the Burritt Education Award, named in memory of our friend and colleague, Tim Burritt. This award recognizes College of Engineering staff members who are continuing their education while still maintaining a level of excellence at their jobs. The application for the Burritt Education Award can be self-initiated or submitted by a College of Engineering staff or faculty member.

Last, but not least, is the College of Engineering Rookie Award. This award provides a way to recognize a relatively new College of Engineering staff member who has demonstrated remarkable qualities and work ethic.  To qualify for "Rookie" status, an employee must be on staff at CIT for a period of at least six months and no more than two years. Please feel free to contact any of the committee members with questions.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, November 11, 2016. The awards will be presented, along with awards recognizing length of service, at a ceremony to be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in the Singleton Room, Roberts Hall, for Pittsburgh attendees and Room 109/110 for Silicon Valley attendees.

Thank you for helping to continue the success of this program.

Sincerely,

Jim Garrett
