Geoff Holdridge holds a BA in history from Yale. He subsequently studied aerospace engineering at the University of Maryland and computer science in the graduate school at Loyola University in Maryland. Holdridge has worked in science policy for the federal government for more than 40 years. As an NSF employee, he developed policy papers for OMB and OSTP on energy technologies, served on an interagency committee assessing policy options for restoring U.S. leadership in the semiconductor industry, and worked on an Emerging Engineering Technologies initiative. As a grantee, he helped to establish the World Technology Evaluation Center (WTEC), where he managed and edited final reports from more than 60 international technology assessment studies on subjects ranging from space robotics to electronics and vaccine manufacturing, tissue engineering, and nanotechnology. As a contractor, he established and managed the support staff for the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office, where he has helped draft and edit over 40 official publications of the National Nanotechnology Initiative. He currently serves as executive secretary of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), and of NSET’s Nanotechnology Environmental and Health Implications Working Group. He also helped found and serves as lead support staff for NSET’s informal nanoplastics interest group. He provides support to additional NSTC groups on request, including currently the Subcommittee on Microelectronics Leadership. He is participating in this National Network for Critical Technology Assessment project in his capacity as former Executive Vice President of WTEC.
