Beronda Montgomery will provide a talk on building an inclusive ecosystem. This talk will serve as the culminating activity for the seven-week Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (JEDI) training for teaching assistants and the Inclusive Teaching training for faculty. Montgomery is the author of Lessons from Plants. She is also a professor of biochemistry & molecular biology and microbiology & molecular genetics at Michigan State University, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. Montgomery’s primary laboratory-based research is focused on the responses of photosynthetic organisms to external light cues. Additionally, she seeks to understand how individuals perceive, respond to, and are impacted by the environments in which they exist. She pursues this theme in the context of effective mentoring and leadership of individuals, and the role of innovative leaders in supporting success.
