Bias Busters @ CMU: Faculty Hiring or Promotion

November 5-6, 2017

9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. ET

Singleton, Roberts Engineering Hall

Please join us for a Bias Busters session for faculty involved in hiring or promotion decisions.

Unconscious bias is believed to be a contributing factor that has stalled efforts of increasing diversity in hiring or promotion. This workshop will present some current understanding of what these biases are and how we can reduce their impacts in our decision making.

We will present some ideas on how to structure the decision process to reduce the role of biases. There will also be role-playing activities to give you practice at identifying and responding to unconscious bias in your committee activities.

Before the training, please watch the Google Ventures Video and then take one of the Implicit Association tests.

The sessions are organized by the College of Engineering’s Center for Faculty Success (CFS) Plaidvocates program.
