Electric vehicles have the potential to be used as virtual power plants to provide reliable back-up power. This generates additional profits of carsharing rental firms, who rent vehicles by the minute.

Wolf Ketter is Chaired Professor of Information Systems at the Faculty of Management, Economics, and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne, Cologne, Germany. He also serves as the Director of the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) and the Erasmus Centre for Future Energy Business at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In his role, Ketter advises directly the Germany government as well as European businesses. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota in 2007.
