Event description

The Entrepreneurship Development Impact Program (EDIP) rests on the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Mentorship Education Certification (EIMEC) program that is a rigorous train-the-trainer initiative designed to transform African faculty members into expert mentors who can foster a culture of innovation and job creation across diverse academic disciplines.

By compressing extensive coursework into an intensive five-day curriculum, the program addresses the shortage of personnel capable of guiding students from early-stage project ideas to the establishment of profitable, scalable startups. The comprehensive syllabus bridges the gap between theory and practice, covering vital competencies such as financial literacy, design thinking, and intellectual property, while integrating emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Ultimately, this collaborative effort aims to combat youth unemployment and poverty by equipping educators with the mentorship skills necessary to turn academic research into sustainable business ventures.

The depth and intensity of the EIMEC program—compressing what is typically four months of learning into a five-day intensive schedule—highlights just how valuable this training is for the university community.

By the end of this program, the faculty members involved will be equipped to bridge the knowledge gap between theory and practice and serve as the essential on-the-ground mentors needed to turn student projects into profitable ventures

The expertise shared by the seasoned academics, successful entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists involved in the training ensures that the participants are receiving world-class guidance to fight unemployment and poverty through innovation

EDIP-EIMEC program's core goal include:

  • Empowering faculty members to create a sustainable, entrepreneurship-oriented university environment that fosters job creation across all disciplines
  • The critical need for on-the-ground mentors to support early-stage innovation and bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical business development
  • Professional Mentorship Training: Specialized coaching on how to guide students from "bright ideas" to fully developed, profitable startups
  • Expert Access: Opportunities to learn from seasoned academics, successful entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists
  • Certification: Recognition of expertise upon successful completion of the intensive 5-day program and its assessments
