Outstanding Mentoring Award
The Outstanding Mentoring Award is made to a faculty member in the College of Engineering in recognition of excellence in mentoring of graduate students and/or junior faculty. The award consists of a certificate and an honorarium. The award will be given annually (if appropriate).
This award is open to any faculty member in the College of Engineering, including regular, research, teaching, and special faculty, who has been a faculty member in the College of Engineering for at least 10 years, not necessarily continuously.
The basis for selection will be excellence in mentoring of graduate students and/or junior faculty. Outstanding mentoring can come in a variety of forms and nominators are encouraged to nominate all such deserving candidates.
Nominations for the award will be submitted to the Associate Dean for Graduate and Faculty Affairs by the deadline. Successful nomination packages will have multiple nominators and examples of a broad impact in mentoring. Documentation to support the nomination should include:
- a citation of up to 100 words
- a letter of nomination up to two pages describing how the nominee meets the award criteria
- the nomee's current CV
- at least five but no more than ten letters of support from CMU (current or former) graduate students and faculty that address one or more of the following:
- detail how the nominee's mentorship contributed to their development
- describe their observation of the nominee's mentoring and how it has contributed to the development of graduate students and/or junior faculty
- additional materials the nominators may consider appropriate, recommended under 10 pages
Selection of the award winner or winners is performed by the College of Engineering Faculty Awards and Recognition Committee. All College of Engineering Faculty awards will be announced at the Annual College of Engineering Faculty Awards Event.
